Voopoo Drag Max Review: Pros & Cons

It wouldn’t have been entirely accurate for me to introduce the DRAG Max as the most recent model in the DRAG line of mods. Yes, the DRAG Max shares many similarities with the DRAG and DRAG 2, and its general layout is quite similar to a typical dual-18650 vape mod. But if you look closely, you’ll see that it’s actually a powerful pod mod. Consider it a dual-18650 platform for PnP pods, or a bigger DRAG X with better battery life and a higher power rating.

After the Argus GT, that is the second dual-battery vape that Voopoo has combined with PnP coils, but these are two quite different devices since the Argus came with a 510-to-PnP converter while the Max doesn’t have a 510 connection at all. Continue reading, and I will attempt to clarify it for you especially if you find Voopoo’s ecosystem approach intriguing but product lines are starting to confound you.

Design & Build Quality

When I initially opened the package, the Max mod actually does resemble a development of the DRAG series, I thought. Although slightly smaller, it has a very similar shape to the original DRAG, but the corners are now rounded and the PnP pod sits on a 4 mm higher platform. In terms of form factor, I’d place the Max roughly in the middle of the original DRAG and the Argus GT upgrade.

However, as stated in the introduction, it would be more accurate to say that the DRAG Max is an improved version of the DRAG X. After all, it is a dual-battery mod with airflow control that lacks a 510 connection in favour of the PnP platform’s own magnetic connection. In light of that, I’ll make some further comparisons to its dual-battery siblings as I’m fairly certain that a large portion of the readers already have a DRAG mod.

The screen is now on the side from where the tank is positioned, which is a significant improvement over the previous DRAG mod. This is a wonderful adjustment for me because I find using my thumb to fire to be much more natural. The screen underwent a significant redesign as well and now resembles the screens of the DRAG S and X. It is vividly coloured and very simple to read. There is also all the pertinent information. A battery metre, watts, mode, resistance, volts, puff counter, and puff duration are all visible at the top.

The DRAG Max’s construction differs greatly from those of the earlier heavy DRAGs. With stunning leather backings sandwiching the metallic frame and glittering accents on both sides, it is an extremely lightweight mod that is available in a variety of styles.

Mods

It can be challenging to evaluate the performance of this mod because the DRAG Max belongs in a distinct category. It is a powerful pod vape disguised as a mod, yet the 510 connector makes it simple to change into a regular mod. You only need to insert the adapter and screw on the tank to create a vape mod. Unfortunately, neither the Limited Edition nor the product itself comes with a 510 adapter.

The DRAG Max works perfectly with PnP pods, and I’m glad I can use a PnP-based gadget without having to bring an extra battery with me. The update appears to be effective at reducing battery drain and fires quickly. I can use approximately 2.5 pods (10 mL) on the 0.15-ohm coil at 65 watts when I load it with two recently charged 18650 batteries. Since these PnP coils consume the most power, combining them with any of the other coils will extend their lifespan. However, keep in mind that your results may vary based on the characteristics of your 18650 batteries.

You’ll struggle to find a dual-18650 gadget that is easier to operate in terms of navigation:

  • Five clicks for turning the mod on/off
  • Three clicks for changing mode (S for smart, R for RBA)
  • Press fire + for locking the device (doesn’t fire when locked)
  • Press fire + down for clearing the puff counter
  • Press up + down for changing the theme (press fire to pick)
