Our In-House Review of the Smok Nord X Pod Kit

When you’ve worked in the vape industry as long as we have, it gets hard not to choose favourites. Whether it’s a device, a vape juice, or even just accessories, we all have our favourites. A great way to understand the potential of a device is by reading reviews on it. So, we decided to write an in-house review on one of our favourite pod kits: the Smok Nord X!

First Impression of the Smok Nord X

Straight off the bat, our very first impression of this device is that it’s super strong and solid. You can tell that Smok went for a more tough and rugged build for this device. Just by holding it, you can tell a knock or two won’t affect the device badly. The device fits well in your hand, despite the denseness of it. The rubberised coating gives it a great grip, and makes it feel almost like an extension of your hand. This device is also IP67 rated.

Apart from the IP67 rating, the Smok Nord X has a built-in 1500mah internal battery, an e-liquid capacity of 6ml, USB C-Type charging, and up to a whopping 60 watts of power! Those specs don’t lie, this device is now among our favourites for a reason.

The Body

When it comes to size the Nord X may seem a bit small, even when compared to the past generations of the Nord series. The dimensions are 100x31x23mm. The build is a sturdy and compact zinc-alloy frame completed with a pair of stylish panels on the front and back. The Nord X is also fitted with rubber strips on the sides and bottom, which add to the grip and aesthetic of the device.

The POD sits comfortably in its recess from the top and makes its connection to the airflow slots located on the side of the mod. The fire button is easily identifiable by its illuminated central backlight and also built stiff enough so as to not get activated while in your pocket.

The Nord X houses a reliable OLED display on its side and is similar in size as the Nord 2’s screen. Below this display lies two small buttons, these control the wattage. This is a significant upgrade from the previous method of pressing the fire button in a particular combination.

Last but not the least, the bottom of the Nord X is fitted with a USB-Type-C charging port. Keeping the IP67 in mind, Smok has added a tight rubber plug to completely water-seal the charging port

The Battery

The Nord X is equipped with a 1500mah battery, similar to the one on the Nord 2. This battery is expected to charge from empty to full in a good 75 minutes at a decent 1.2 Amp charge rate. Although Smok did not feel the need to upgrade the battery from the Nord 2, they did add a feature that displays the ETA to the battery being fully charged.

The Airflow

The airflow on the Smok Nord X is open and wide, and you can’t really adjust it. This makes the device primarily a DTL one. This is one feature we aren’t too keen on, since it’s always great to have control over the airflow of your device. If you wanted to, you could buy a MTL RPM coil to help restrict the Smok Nord X’s airflow, but it won’t achieve that perfect MTL fit. It would just restrict the airflow a bit.

The airflow comes through two big slots on each side of the device that passes air on under the coil when the POD is attached.

Usage

The Smok Nord X isn’t too difficult to use. Pretty much anyone can use it, including beginners. Not overly complicated, this device has good adjustment with variable wattage. Here’s how you use the device:

• To turn it off and on, click 5 times on the fire button
• To lock the power, click the fire button 3 times
• To increase the wattage, press the “up” button
• To decrease the wattage, press the “down” button

It’s pretty straightforward and simple.

Pros & Cons

To sum up its main features, here are a few pros and cons of the Smoke Nord X:

Pros:

• Dust-Proof, Water-Resistant, and Shock-Proof

Cons:

• Airflow control could be better
• The outer rubberised layer attracts lots of dust, so you have to store the device carefully and clean it often

Can You Blow Smok Rings?

A very important aspect for some vapers is whether you can do tricks with the device. If you’re a trickster, then this one’s for you! The Smok Nord X is amazing to use when it comes to tricks, like blowing smok rings! Though the airflow control isn’t very strong, the clouds are dense enough to play around with. The Smok Nord X is a good option if you’re into tricks.
